Transcript-Ready Grades from Instructors Who Know the Material.
Add Grading and Written Feedback to Self-Paced Courses
You chose Compass Classroom because you want your kids to learn from master teachers. But when it comes to evaluating writing, and giving meaningful feedback… that part still falls on you. Until now.
When you add grading to our most popular courses, your student gets feedback from someone who knows the curriculum inside and out: experienced teachers like Thomas & Ben; classroom instructors like Mary Pierson & Libby; homeschool parents and graduates like Melodie & Andrea.

- Watch essays improve with outside feedback. Help your student find direction in a challenging subject with open-ended answers. With our grading service, you get the one thing self-paced courses can't provide: someone who knows the material telling them how to get better.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to own the course separately?
Yes. Compass Grading is an add-on service for students who already have access to a course. Your student needs active course access, either through an a la carte purchase or a Compass Membership. Once you have the course, you can add grading to get a tutor’s feedback on your student’s work.
How is this different from your live classes?
Our live classes include weekly Zoom sessions with real-time instruction, discussion, and interaction with the teacher and other students. Compass Grading is designed for self-paced courses. Your student watches the video lectures and completes the work on their own schedule, then submits assignments for expert evaluation and feedback. It’s ideal for families who want professional assessment without committing to a weekly class time.
What kinds of assignments will be graded?
For each course, we grade the key assignments that give us an essential snapshot of your student’s understanding. These typically include essays, exams, projects, portfolios, and written responses. Multiple-choice quizzes are auto-graded within the course itself.

We only grade what your student submits. There are no deductions for missing work.
May students share a grading account?
No. Grading is per student, per course in order to provide the best possible service with continuity across the semester or year.
What if my student has questions about an assignment?
Every assignment has its own comment thread where your student can ask questions and discuss the work directly with their instructor. Students also have access to direct messages for longer conversations. Our instructors respond as part of the grading service, so your student gets the support they need to understand the material and improve their work.
Can my student resubmit working after getting feedback?
Absolutely. We encourage resubmissions. When your student receives feedback, they can revise their work and resubmit it. This is how real learning happens. Our instructors want to see students grow, and the back-and-forth of revision is one of the most valuable parts of the grading process.
Will my student receive a final grade?
Yes. At the end of the term, you’ll receive a suggested final grade based on your student’s submitted assignments. Since this is a homeschool service, you have final authority over your student’s transcript. Use the suggested grade as-is, or adjust it based on your own assessment.
Is there a limit to to the number of courses I can get graded?
No limit. You can add grading to as many eligible courses as your student is taking. Select what you need.
What is your refund policy?
We want you to be confident this is right for your family. After your student receives their first graded assignment, take a look at the feedback. If you’re not satisfied with the quality, contact us within 14 days of that first graded assignment for a full refund. No questions asked.
Is this ESA-eligible?
Compass Grading is an service without live interaction. Students submit work through the assignment dashboard and receive written feedback, comments, and direct messages from their instructor. There are no scheduled meetings or video calls. Check your state’s ESA requirements to confirm eligibility for asynchronous educational services.
