Spanish 1 Live

Description

In this class, Dwane will take students through most of The Magic Key to Spanish by Margarita Madrigal. Students will learn all of Spanish Grammar. This is a rather intense Spanish class, though the book makes the course seem somewhat easy. There are 45 chapters in the book.  We will meet for a total of 31 weeks. In the beginning, with the easier chapters, we will move at the pace of several chapters weekly. Students will read the chapters, and then will come to class to discuss what they have read. We will practice speaking Spanish in class. There will be opportunities for questions and discussion. Multiple choice tests and test keys are included for every chapter on Dwane’s site, where grades will be posted.

Credit: Full Credit in High School Foreign Language

Ages: 14+ (This course is taught at the high school level.)

The class will meet weekly over GoToMeeting on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 9:30 AM – 9:55 AM Central Standard Time, according to the schedule below. The format will be lectures and discussion each week.

About the Instructor

Dwane has been studying languages for most of his life. He grew up in Europe surrounded by languages. For almost 30 years he has been teaching Latin in the classroom and online. Dwane and his wife have five wonderful children whom they homeschooled.

Schedule of Class Meetings

Each week below, Dwane will work through the text with students on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On Thursdays, students meet to practice speaking to each other. All meetings are held on GoToMeeting from 9:30 AM–9:55 AM CST and will be recorded if students are absent.

What if I can’t attend the live GoToMeeting sessions?

All the sessions will be recorded and posted for enrolled families to watch at their convenience. You can use the recordings to review or catch up if you missed a session.

Families who can’t make the schedule above can still participate in the class assignments and group discussions by watching the recordings and communicating in the group on My Compass Classroom.

What kinds of assignments and assessments are included?

Assignments include weekly readings and multiple-choice tests.  All are designed to help students gain proficiency in Spanish.

Will my student receive a final grade?

Yes! Dwane Thomas will provide a suggested final grade based on submitted assignments and participation. Since this is a live homeschool course, the parent has the final authority and may use this grade as part of their student’s official transcript or records.

Is there a minimum enrollment required?

All live classes are subject to minimum enrollment in order to hold. If minimum enrollment is not reached before the first scheduled session, all families will be notified and refunded completely.

Do you offer refunds on live classes?

We think you will love this class. If you don’t, you may request a refund but must do so no later than before the second scheduled class after your enrollment (purchase) date. This gives you the chance to experience an entire live class session to make your decision.

How long will I have access to the class?

Recording access expires 6 weeks after the last live session. Families are free to continue working through the course on their own during this time. However, no submissions will be graded after the final class meeting, or as directed by the instructor.
